Location
The Lodge at Pine Cove and the French River Outfitters are
located near the small community of Noelville on the French
River, a 105-km (66-mile) heritage waterway Provincial Park
that winds its way through a maze of channels and bays from
lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay (Lake Huron). For many centuries
this river was a major aboriginal trade route. When the Europeans
arrived, they used the French River to gain access to the
Great Lakes and Canada's and America's interior. French explorer
Samuel de Champlain paddled it in 1615. During Canada's fur
trade era, the river could be a swift one-day to 1.5-day downriver
run for the famous voyageurs.
The Lodge at Pine Cove is a spectacular 6,500 sq. ft. lodge
that was completely renovated and rebuilt in 2001-2003. Set
in a very private cove that is a swimmers' paradise, the new
Lodge at Pine Cove features soaring cathedral ceilings, three
stone fireplaces, a library, a lounge overlooking Wolseley
Bay, a bar and fine dining rooms. Lodge accommodation is in
newly renovated log and cedar-sided cottages that all have
screened porches with water views and privacy.
Phase 2 of the refurbishment starts in 2003 and encompasses
cottages that are very remote from one another; guests will have
a choice of taking a boat or hiking to these cottages. The Lodge
at Pine Cove will accommodate 120-plus guests when fully completed.
