The Lodge and The Cottages at Pine Cove is one of those places
at the end of the road that most people would miss. There
are no flashy signs or roadside markers. The end of the gravel
road is the front door of this lodge at the edge of the wilderness.
I had the opportunity to visit the lodge twice during the
summer of 2001 to enjoy the French River and observe the construction
of the lodge. The main bar and dining room of the lodge is
magnificent -- a cathedral ceiling capped off with solid log
beams, a copper-topped bar and a wonderful stone fireplace.
I had breakfast and dinner on the screened-in front porch
and enjoyed a morning swim in the sheltered cove. The Lodge
at Pine Cove in my view will soon be "the place to stay"
on the French River. I look forward to returning to the lodge
next summer.

The lodge at Pine Cove offers easy access to the French River
wilderness. Its comfortable lodge, excellent food, and delightful
cabins bring one back in time
to a simpler time, when
this region had not been touched by man

I visited the French River for the first time in the fall of 2001 and was
unaware, until then, how ruggedly beautiful the northern Ontario landscape is.
The French River presents a landscape that offers visitors a peaceful,
serene and quiet beauty that rejuvenates the spirit and soul. I would
definitely recommend a visit to this unique part of the province and
look forward to visiting it myself again.

Pine Cove Lodge is a place nearly extinct in Europe. A few
hours drive from metropole Toronto (a KLM-destination) flows
the French River, once an important traffic route for the
fur traders, and now a splendid and quiet area rich in nature
and forest. Pine Cove Lodge, property of former business man
Alex Strachan who spares neither money nor effort to make
his Lodge a special place, is seated at the end of a peninsula
at the edge of the inhabited world. Actually French River
isn't a regular river, but a complex system of waterways which
closely resembles a gigantic Biesbosch. It is a labyrinth
with numerous rivers, small rivers, lakes (who provide a good
swim in summer) and especially rapids - a true paradise for
canoo-ers. Who likes can paddle around all day and enjoy real
nature. The rapids differ in difficulty, from very quiet ones
to rapids only for use of very experienced canoo-ers. Pine
Cove Lodge has a crew of experienced guides who can accompany
Dutch canoo-ers used to the needlesharp straightforward Dutch
waterways. For those who aren't interested in sports Pine
Cove Lodge has also more hedonist pleasures, such as the roofed-over
verandah, where one can read a book in peace, talk a while
or enjoy resplendent sunsets. A beautiful place for everyone
who has enough of the buzz of the polder. I know where I'm
going when I'm in Canada again.

When I said to Alex that the motto for the Lodge should be "Stop dreaming", I wasn't joking.
Like I said to Alex, the motto for the lodge should be "stop dreaming".

We've returned home from our 5 days at Pine Cove feeling
rested and relaxed. The week was amazing and one that will
certainly stay with us for a long time. We certainly hope
to return one day. The accomodations were beyond beautiful,
the food, better than anything we've experienced before, the
scenery and paddling was fabulous and your hospitality was
amazing. John and I will certainly recommend Pine Cove to
our family and friends. We wish you all the very best in your
adventures at Pine Cove and we hope to see you again. Thank
you so much for a lovely holiday. Have a great summer.
Sincerely,
Kathy Mayo and John Scott
I wanted to THANK YOU for an unbelievable trip. I have heard
nothing but rave reviews. I was waiting for everyone's feedback
but I wanted to thank you as it was getting late. Also extend
my thanks to everyone else who made the trip a success. One
of the gentleman mentioned first class and that it was one
of the best meals he has ever had!!!
Hats off to both of you!!!
